Geomechanical Characterization
Fracture testing of geomaterials (SCB, SR, pCT, WST, and CSTBD) and loading-fixture design.
Numerical Simulations
Fracture and damage analysis (FEM, XFEM, DEM, and peridynamics): Abaqus, LS-DYNA, PFC, and MUSEN.
Geomechanical stability analysis (FEM and FDM): FLAC, PLAXIS, and Abaqus.
Granular-flow modeling (DEM and SPH): PFC, LS-DYNA, Abaqus, LAMMPS, LIGGGHTS, and MUSEN.
Extremely large deformation modeling, with applications to sinkhole formation and slope failure (SPH and DEM): Abaqus, and LS-DYNA.
I combine experimental testing with FEM, XFEM, DEM, and FDEM to reduce physical trial-and-error, optimize test plans, and provide deeper insight into crack growth, damage evolution, and failure mechanisms. Validated models can also extend studies beyond physically tested cases.
I use FEM, FDM, DEM, and FDEM to assess the short- and long-term stability of excavations, underground structures, slopes, and other geotechnical systems under different loading, construction, and failure scenarios.
